The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) are preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Union Station to Georgetown Transportation Improvements Project. The EA will be prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is a cooperating agency for the EA. The study area includes a 3.3 mile long corridor from 3rd Street NE to 33rd Street NW. The EA will evaluate the environmental effects of the reconstruction of the roadway to provide multi-modal and safety improvements. The evaluation of transportation improvements for all modes – streetcar, vehicular, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian – are evaluated to determine the best multi-modal enhancements on the corridor.
